Why This Matters
Windows 10 reached end of support on October 14, 2025. Without updates, your system may be vulnerable to new security threats. Microsoft offers Extended Security Updates (ESU) through certain programs — some are even free.
Option 1: Microsoft 365 Subscription
If your PC is linked to a Microsoft 365 Business Premium subscription or school account:
- Check if your account has M365 Business Premium access.
- Make sure Windows Update is turned on.
- ESU will be applied automatically if eligible.
Option 2: Education & Nonprofits
Many schools and nonprofits receive free ESU licenses:
- Contact your IT admin or institution.
- Ask if they are enrolled in Microsoft’s ESU program.
- Ensure your device stays connected to their update management system.
Option 3: Eligible Devices
Some enterprise & education devices will receive ESU automatically.
- Go to Settings > Windows Update
- Check after October 2025 if updates still arrive
- If they do, your device likely qualifies
Not Eligible?
If you don’t qualify for free ESU:
- You may purchase paid ESU per device
- Upgrade to Windows 11 if your hardware supports it
- Transition to an alternative OS like Linux! May be good to do anyway :)
